Tour Details

The Tambopata National Reserve is a protected area in Peru. It is located in the province of Tambopata, in the Madre de Dios region. The purpose of the reserve is to protect the flora, fauna, and ecological processes of the area. The reserve covers different habitats, which include Amazonian lowlands, rainforests, and oxbow lakes.

Due to its remote location, Tambopata has an incredible biodiversity. The reserve is home to around 150 species of mammals, 630 species of birds, and 1100 species of butterflies. Additionally, the reserve is inhabited by the Ese Eja native community.

Itinerary

Day 1Puerto Maldonado - Tambopata Lodge

We will pick up from the airport or the bus terminal of Puerto Maldonado. Then, we will drive in our private vehicle to our office, where we will brief you about the itinerary of the tour for the next days. Afterwards, we will drive to a local port, where we will board a boat to our lodge located in the Tambopata National Reserve.

We will be navigating on the beautiful Tambopata river. During this boat trip you will be able to appreciate the unique landscapes of the Amazon rainforests. You will be able to see turtles, caimans, and capybaras resting and swimming in the river’s waters.

Once we arrive at our lodge, our staff will help you to accommodate your room. Then, you will have a traditional Amazonian lunch. In the afternoon, we will explore the nearby rainforests and river banks. You will have the chance to spot numerous animals such as giant otters, snakes, squirrel monkeys, and black caimans. Afterwards, we will return to the lodge to have dinner and spend the rest of the night.

Day 2Tambopata Lodge - Macaw Clay Lick - Jungle Exploring- Tambopata Lodge

We will leave the lodge early in the morning, around 4:00 am. Then, we will board a boat to Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick. This place is famous for the numerous parrots and macaws that gather there each day. We will spend some time in a nearby observatory watching the birds on the clay lick. Then, we will return to the lodge to have a delicious breakfast.

After breakfast, you will spend the rest of the day relaxing in the lodge. You can also take a nap on our hammocks located in the nearby rainforest. Around noon, we will have a traditional lunch. Then, you will have a hike to the botanical garden, a place full of unique native plants.

After the hike, we will spend some time admiring the sunset at the Tambopata reserve, before returning to the lodge. Then, we will have a delicious dinner. After dinner, you will have a short nocturnal hike through the nearby jungle.

Day 3Tambopata Lodge - Puerto Maldonado

We will wake up early in the morning to have a short trek through the nearby rainforest. Then, we will return to the lodge to have a delicious breakfast. Afterwards, we will leave the lodge to board a boat to return to the city of Puerto Maldonado.

Once in Puerto Maldonado city, we will go to our office. Then, we will transfer you to the bus terminal or the local airport, depending on your choice.
